Can I take other medications while receiving MAT?
Possibly. Patients should inform their medical provider about all prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, supplements, and substances they are using. Some combinations can be dangerous and require medical supervision.

Does insurance cover MAT?
Many insurance plans, including Medicaid and other public and private insurance programs, provide coverage for MAT services. A member of our administrative team will be onsite during your first appointment to assist with billing questions. Less than 1% of patients at QCS end up needing to pay out of pocket for services. In almost all cases, treatment is covered through insurance or grants. IF a patient does have to self-pay, the fee is $75/week and is all-inclusive.

How does Methadone work?
Methadone helps individuals recovering from opioid addiction by preventing withdrawal symptoms and reducing cravings without producing the euphoric effects associated with illicit opioid use.
Methadone can suppress withdrawal symptoms for 24 to 36 hours, allowing patients to function normally and focus on recovery. Along with medication, patients participate in counseling services that address relapse prevention, stress management, family relationships, employment goals, and overall wellness.
Some patients achieve stability quickly, while others require additional time and adjustments to their treatment plan.
How does Buprenorphine work?
Buprenorphine is a medication used to treat opioid use disorder by reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms. It helps patients stabilize physically while lowering the risk of misuse and overdose. Like Methadone, Buprenorphine is most effective when combined with counseling and recovery support services.
How do I know if I qualify for MAT?
Eligibility for MAT is determined through a comprehensive assessment conducted by medical professionals. Factors considered include:
- History of opioid use
- Current substance use
- Medical and mental health history
- Treatment needs and goals
- Physical dependence on opioids
A clinical assessment helps determine the most appropriate treatment option for each patient.
What happens during my first visit to QCS?
During the initial visit, patients will:

Patients may receive medication on their first visit if they are experiencing withdrawal symptoms and meet medical criteria. Staff will establish treatment goals and review guidelines designed to support safety and success.
Will I have to come to the clinic every day?
Initially, patients are generally required to visit the clinic Monday through Friday for medication dosing and counseling services.
As patients demonstrate stability, compliance, and progress in treatment, they may become eligible for take-home medication privileges and less frequent clinic visits in accordance with federal and state regulations.
How long will I need to stay on MAT?
The length of treatment varies from person to person. Some individuals benefit from MAT for months, while others may remain on medication for years. Treatment duration is determined collaboratively between the patient and treatment team based on individual needs and recovery progress.
Is counseling required?
Counseling is an important component of comprehensive treatment at QCS. Counseling services help patients:
- Develop coping skills
- Prevent relapse

Services may include individual, group, family, and educational counseling.
What if I relapse while in treatment?

How do I stop MAT if I decide to discontinue treatment?
MAT should never be stopped abruptly without medical supervision. Patients interested in tapering off medication should work closely with their treatment provider to develop a safe and individualized plan.
